Chapter 4
1. The concept of universal design suggests that all instructional activities should ensure equal access for all learners regardless of their unique needs. After reading the In Depth feature on universal design and examining its evolution from architecture to learning, consider how you might include universal design in your classroom. Do you intend to adjust your instruction to include universal design principles when you teach? Explain why or why not.
Diversity is that one thing that can never be changed. We are all different in various ways. One important task of a teacher is to ensure that all instruction fits every student. Lessons must be implemented in a way that the learning needs of all students are being met. I love the idea of universal design. I believe that it is very important that all students have equal access to all instructional activities. I believe that this principle truly allows for no students to be left behind. Many times I have seen teachers ignore special education students in class. They will give them busy work or just have them at the back of the class doing nothing. Sure, they have special teachers that come around to assist them, but those teachers are only with those students for a set amount of time each day. I would definitely try to implement activities in which they could actually be apart of the classroom instruction.
Chapter 5
2. Discuss the cloud storage. Why is it advantageous for educators to share resources and programs on a network? What concerns are associated with program sharing?
Cloud storage is a tool in which you can store data remotely. Many companies have cloud storage options now. iPhone users are able to use their iCloud to store data remotely.
When educators share resources on a network, it can be utilized readily by other educators who have access to that network. For example, if a school has a server named, "5th Grade Math Teachers Network," then resources can be shared amongst those who have permission to access that particular network. Servers allow for programs and software to be downloaded to the server, but accessible to anyone with access to that server. For example, if the principal downloads a new training program onto the server, then all the teachers will have access to it. This way the IT department don't have to install the programs on each computer. One major problem with network sharing with a server is that if the server crashes or have technical difficulties, then it will affect all computers connected to it.
Chapter 6
3. You have learned about the challenges you will face in implementing technology in your classroom. How do you plan to meet these challenges during your pre-service and in-service career? Be specific in describing a strategy to meet each challenge.
Technology is a wonderful thing, but it is very unpredictable and can sometimes be a pain. I will try to get as much training as possible pre-service, and continue to get training in-service. Technology changes rapidly. Because of this, it is important to stay up to date on the latest technology adaptations. Most students are very aware of technology and are more knowledgeable than most teachers. It is important to be able to keep up with the technology trends in order to be able to keep up with the students' learning trend.
